SAVANNAH MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHER
Savannah, Georgia Maternity Photographer | Winter Session by GEM Photo

There’s something really special about maternity sessions in the winter here in Savannah. The air feels a little quieter. The light is softer. The crowds disappear. Everything slows down just enough to really soak it all in. I met Ilyse and William on Wilmington Island on a cold, dry, and very windy January evening, and even though we were all bundled up between shots, you never would have guessed it from their photos. They braved the chill like absolute champs, wrapped up in each other the whole time, laughing and staying close to keep warm. This is their first baby, and you can feel how excited they are in every single frame. The love between them is just easy. Comfortable. The kind of connection that doesn’t need much direction. We photographed their session on a family friend’s property, and it honestly felt like we had the whole world to ourselves.
Massive oak trees with Spanish moss.
Quiet garden paths.
Open grass.
Little tucked-away corners that felt straight out of a storybook.
Every turn gave us a new backdrop, which made the session feel like one long walk together instead of “posing for photos.” My favorite kind. We mixed sweet candid moments with some classic portraits and a few quiet details, like their hands wrapped around her belly and the tiniest ultrasound photos tucked close. Those little details always get me. Because this season goes by so fast. One day you’re counting kicks… and the next you’re holding a newborn.
As the sun started to dip lower, we ended the evening out by the marsh, and the light turned that soft golden Savannah glow that makes everything feel a little magical. The wind picked up even more, her hair was flying everywhere, and honestly… it couldn’t have been more perfect. Messy in the best way. Real. Joyful. Exactly what this season feels like. Sessions like this are such a gentle reminder of why I love what I do. Getting to document the “before” — the anticipation, the quiet, the waiting — before life changes forever. Baby is already so loved.
