One of the questions I get asked most often is, “Where should we take photos in Savannah?” And honestly, it’s a good question. Savannah is full of charm, history, and texture, and the right location can completely shape how your session feels. When I help clients choose a location, I’m thinking about light, flow, background variety, privacy, and how the space will photograph throughout the session, not just in one pretty spot. Below are some of my favorite Savannah locations that consistently photograph beautifully for couples, families, engagements, and even surprise proposals.
EMMET PARK
If you love the look of long oak-lined paths and Spanish moss but don’t want the crowds or entry fee of Wormsloe, Emmet Park is such an underrated gem.
Located right off Bay Street in downtown Savannah, this spot gives you that classic Southern feel with towering oaks, hanging moss, and soft natural light. It’s especially great for sessions where you want a calm, romantic feel without feeling rushed or surrounded by people.
This location works beautifully for couples, maternity sessions, and families who want something timeless and very “Savannah” without being overly busy.
Rose Garden at Forsyth Park
The Rose Garden is one of my go-to spots when clients want a romantic and polished look with lots of variety in one place. You’ll find white columns, Spanish moss-covered oaks, blooming roses, and open green space all within a short walk.
It’s also a very popular spot for surprise proposals. I’ve photographed quite a few here, and it’s easy to see why. It feels intimate, elegant, and special without being closed off from the rest of the park. If you’re planning a proposal and want a location that feels intentional but still natural, this is a great option.
Forsyth Park in general offers so many background options, which means your gallery won’t feel repetitive. We can move through different areas and create a really well-rounded set of images.
Factors Walk on River Street
If you’re drawn to historic charm, brick walls, iron details, and cobblestone streets, Factors Walk is hard to beat. This area along River Street gives you that old-world Savannah look that feels rich and textured in photos.
Timing matters here. I always recommend sessions in this area early in the morning before crowds roll in. When we plan it right, you get beautiful light, quieter streets, and a relaxed experience.
This spot is especially great for couples, engagement sessions, and anyone who loves a more editorial, architectural feel to their photos.
North Beach at Tybee Island
North Beach is one of my favorite coastal locations for sessions that feel relaxed, timeless, and a little bit magical. The dunes here are especially lush, giving you that layered beach look with tall sea oats, soft sand, and beautiful texture throughout the background. Depending on where we shoot, we can also incorporate the Tybee Island lighthouse for a classic, iconic coastal feel.
North Beach is a great fit for couples, families, and milestone sessions, and it’s a location I personally love working at. I’ve even photographed an elopement here, which speaks to how naturally intimate and versatile the space is. From soft light along the shoreline to tucked-away spots in the dunes, it gives us multiple looks without ever feeling overdone.
NOBLE HARDEE MANSION
Just around the corner from Forsyth Park, the Noble Hardee Mansion is one of those locations that feels effortlessly beautiful. The architecture alone makes it stand out, and the surrounding area photographs so well.
This spot is perfect if you’re looking for something classic and refined without needing to move around too much. It works beautifully for couples, families, and maternity sessions, and pairs really nicely with nearby Forsyth locations if you want a little variety.
oglethorpe club steps
Located just across from Forsyth Park, the Oglethorpe Club steps offer a timeless Savannah backdrop that gives a nice break from all the greenery and moss while still feeling unmistakably Savannah. The grand staircase and wrought iron railings add structure and elegance, and they photograph beautifully in a wide range of light. This spot works especially well for couples and families who want something polished but still relaxed. It’s refined without feeling stiff, making it easy to focus on connection rather than posing.
Choosing the right location for you
No two sessions are ever the same, and choosing a location is one of the most important parts of the planning process. I always take into account the season, your outfits, and how you want your photos to feel before recommending a spot. Whether you’re drawn to mossy oaks, historic architecture, or something more coastal, I’ll help guide you toward a location that fits you best.
If you’re thinking about booking a session and aren’t sure where to start, I’m always happy to help you narrow things down. You can view my availability and book through my site, and we’ll plan something that feels natural, intentional, and true to you.
